Chifwema Arboretum seeks to be the “go to place” for all things related to trees in Zambia.
It is a living museum of indigenous trees and plants, providing information on trees and their complex interactions with the environment. It will be an education and training centre for school and university students and persons interested in making tree conservation their livelihood.
We have trails for kids to follow, a small playground and picnic sites for you to enjoy.
Chifwema Arboretum also has a section for individuals to plant trees to celebrate a person or event.
Chifwema Arboretum provides a permanent space of about 30 acres in perpetuity, to exhibit and celebrate indigenous trees and shrubs.
It is a peaceful place - a place to connect with nature, where many different trees and shrubs are grown for research, study of ethno-botany and related traditional medicine, aesthetic appreciation and botanically related conservation and education.
It is our conviction that the Chifwema Arboretum will enhance knowledge and understanding of our indigenous trees and plants, their ecology, and the benefits they bring to the environment, our climate and to the wellbeing of humans and wildlife. The Chifwema Arboretum will also provide livelihood opportunities for those who seek to become involved in nature, the environment and its conservation.
The Chifwema Arboretum is accessible for all visitors and open to the general public as follows:
Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9-16hrs
Sunday 9 - 12hrs
Other times by appointment.
In addition, scheduled school visits will be encouraged.
Themed open days and events will be held periodically, working in cooperation with a variety of Zambia’s conservation, agricultural, forestry and education actors.
